Whanganui Hospital Pharmacy is offering an exciting opportunity for an intern to join our friendly, multicultural team in 2026.
You will have the opportunity to work across all wards, working alongside clinical pharmacists and being part of the multi-disciplinary team. You will be encouraged and supported to have a go at everything, which will both challenge and extend your clinical experience and skills.
Education is a strong emphasis within the service including provision of information to patients, caregivers and whanau on safe and effective use of medicines as well as providing on-going training and education to prescribers, nursing and pharmacy colleagues. You will have the opportunity to be involved in quality improvement activities and projects.
Close relationships with the community mean opportunities for community pharmacy placements to help embed your dispensing, counselling and OTC skills.
On-going support and training will be provided each step of the way to ensure that you expand your knowledge and skills and fulfil all the requirements to confidently become a pharmacist.
PSNZ Evolve training fees will be paid for.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Whanganui Hospital has ward-based pharmacy technicians gathering patient medication histories. This allows pharmacists more time to focus on providing clinical services, improving patient outcomes and ensuring optimal medicines utilisation.
Whanganui is a pretty, easy to live in town with easy access to larger centers while maintaining a strong sense of community. Situated along the Whanganui River and near both the sea and mountains, it offers fantastic outdoor lifestyle opportunities. The area also boasts a thriving arts community, and housing remains affordable compared to many larger cities.

We are looking for someone to:
- be eligible to enrol in the PSNZ Evolve Intern Training Programme in 2025
- have a strong patient centred approach and a medication safety focus
- display values of empathy, respect, support, unity, care and self-determination
