If you have what it takes to be an excellent clinical pharmacist, then we have one of the best training grounds for you to thrive and succeed!
We have Intern Pharmacist positions for 2026 based at Middlemore Hospital to provide opportunity for pharmacy graduates to undertake pre-registration training and embark on their journey to pursue a career in hospital pharmacy.
Middlemore Hospital is a large and progressive tertiary teaching hospital in South Auckland and is unique in terms of the diverse, high-needs population we serve. Our pharmacy service strives to provide excellent patient-centred care through collaboration, continuous improvement and innovation. Our pharmacists are present and well-regarded throughout the organisation, and provide valuable input to improve patient safety and quality use of medicines from admission to discharge. Through our investment and support towards the development of intern pharmacists and the daily exposure to often complex and challenging clinical scenarios, Counties Manukau is an incomparable training ground for you to become a well-rounded, capable and resilient clinical pharmacist.
As our intern pharmacist, you will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from a range of highly skilled and experienced pharmacy staff and be involved in making important contributions towards patient care in a multidisciplinary environment. We offer a well-structured and supportive internship programme where you will complete a number of core rotations through the Inpatient Dispensary, Medicines Information, General Medicine and General Surgery/Orthopaedics, as well as shorter placements in subspecialty areas such as Older People's Health Cardiology, Renal, Emergency Care, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Mental Health and Women's Children's Health. In addition, you will gain experience and skills working with our established pharmacy systems and technologies including electronic prescribing (MedChart) and automated medication dispensing machines (Pyxis).

Patient-focused, enthusiastic and driven
Determined and care about reducing health inequities and providing high quality pharmaceutical care for a diverse population
Forward-thinking and keen to become part of our progressive and ambitious pharmacy service
